Lane Bryant is part of Ascena Retail Group, an American company that owns seven distinct brands for women. Although the company does publish a yearly corporate responsibility report, it offers little insights into what it’s currently doing in terms of climate action and improvement of its supply chain. In 2018, the fashion brand stated that it is gathering data in order to set a baseline in 2019, before committing to targets. The same goes for a strategy on more sustainable materials and packaging. This means that the company is late to the party when it comes to sustainability practises. While lots of other fashion companies are actively implementing policies geared towards a sustainable future, Ascena Retail is still in the first stage of action: gathering data and setting targets. It has adopted a similar attitude towards workers and animal rights. There is simply not enough proof that something’s being done.
